History

Caplinville features a down home friendly atmosphere, where everyone knows everybody. While it doesn't have the hustle and bustle of Astro City's marquee lights and high rise buildings, there are certain unique benefits, all its own. One of them is a "Local Hero," Roustabout, who seems to be on a first-name basis with most of the residents of the area, even the crusty farmer Mr. DeBeck.

In 2003 Team Carnivore created a bit of a havoc during one of their carnival nights. Roustabout, allied with the townspeople, captured them.

Observations

On the very edge Caplinville's town boundaries sits the Dogpatch Building which houses a local goods store and a bevy of gossip. The Fontaine Fairgrounds is host to a small traveling carnival that visits the town throughout the year. It becomes an fascinating place for the community at large to gather and socialize on a regular basis.

Possible Creator Salute

The Dogpatch Building is a reference to the fictional setting of Al Capp's Li'l Abner, while the Fontaine Fairgrounds is possibly a nod to Fontaine Fox, the comic strip creator of Toonerville Folks.

The name of Caplinville itself, is no doubt a tribute to Li'l Abner creator Al Capp whose real name was Al Caplin.

The resident Mr. DeBeck is a likely reference to comic strip artist Billy DeBeck.
