===The Early Years - Julius and Augustus===
The first generation, Dr. Augustus Furst and his brother Julius Furst, monster-hunters and adventurers into the unknown began in Romania in 1950, being summoned to figure out an energy loss issue that turned out to be [[Onggu the Omnivorous]].

===Family Bonds and Unions===
In one of the Furst brothers' many adventures, they encountered a woman trapped in a strange energy field in Europe. This woman, Nadia, would go on to become Dr. Furst's third wife. Like his first two marriages, however, it eventually fell apart; Nadia left him for [[Kaspian]], prince of the eastern European Beast-Men, a recurrent foe of the Fursts.

Nadia and Kaspian's union produced twin offspring, but shortly after their birth, Nadia vanished. Their father being a supervillain in captivity, Dr. Furst adopted the pair as his own children. The twins, Nikolai ("Nick") and Natalie, were born with the ability to manipulate the same exotic energy their mother had been exposed to.

The years passed, and Nick and Natalie became old enough to accompany the elder Fursts into adventure. It was at this point that the "First Family" name was coined.

Many years later, the adult Natalie married Rex Zorus, the powerful, dinosaur-like son of another longtime enemy, [[Madame Majestrix]], and he joined the family as well.

===The Family Expands===
The first member of the third generation was Natalie and Rex's daughter, Astra. She was born able to convert herself completely into an energy essence, the same one her mother and uncle manipulate. Like those two, she had a remarkable, fantastical upbringing; the uncanny and extraordinary were a regular part of her family's unique lifestyle. Unlike those two, however, she was not satisfied with that. At the age of ten, her desire to know what normal childhood was like became so strong that she left home without telling anyone and enrolled in a public school. After many worrisome days, the Fursts found out where she'd run off to, but they agreed to let her continue attending the school. Astra grew up with her feet planted in both worlds.

Meanwhile, Nick Furst married Darcy Conroy, a prominent Astro City district attorney. The two had twins of their own, Sasha and Karl, who possess physical transformation powers.

:A vehicle with transforming/shape-shifting abilities. As a jet-like structure it serves as the First Family's primary mode of long-range transportation. It has also been seen forming a raw hole in its bottom to allow the Fursts quick exit, and also transforming into a submersible watercraft.

;Uniforms
:The family's uniforms can be reprogrammed to transform from the familiar orange-and-black jumpsuit into other types of clothing, including an insulated hooded parka and even -- at least in Astra's case -- pajamas. Each uniform also includes a locator chip.

;Cerebra-Circuits
:A device that attaches to the forehead and protects against mental domination powers, such as those possessed by the [[Silver Brain]]. While the First Family don't wear the devices as a matter of course, they can quickly deploy them out when preparing to face a foe of a telepathic nature.

;"Bug-Out" Bracelets
:When traveling to other dimensions, the family wears these devices. In case of emergency, the bracelet can activate the portal machinery back at Mt. Kirby and thus return the wearer home.

In addition to the above, Augustus Furst has invented countless other works of technology over the years, and many are at the First Family's disposal, to be taken into adventures as needed.

Located at the top of Mount Kirby, and adjacent to the Observatory, First Faimily's Headquarters serves as their base for work and residence for living. Astro City leaders invited the First Family an open ended lease to Augustus Furst Family as part of a promotional campaign.

Among the building's defenses, are sensors that attack invading surveillance devices. From the building's Transition Room and its array of inter-dimensional portal technology, one can journey to other worlds, galaxies and dimensions.

The Experimentals possess the ability to transmute matter, transitioning it from one of the four states to another, though the precise sorts of transitions they are capable of differ from member to member. For example, solid can transmute energy or gas into solid mass -- which he can add to his own mass, bolstering his size.

In addition, their bodies possess the characteristic traits of their respective states of matter. Liquid is fluid-like and malleable, able to elongate limbs and such. Vapor and Ener-Jeannie can both fly, and the latter fires energy blasts.

[[Altar Boy|Brian Kinney]] mentions that, as part of [[Enelsian Invasion|their effort]] to pacify the world's heroes, the [[Enelsians]] confiscated the Experimentals' stasis pods in 1997. Though the quartet is seemingly out of action in the modern day, this incident would seem to suggest they are at least still alive in some form. Perhaps they're being kept in stasis permanently or for a long duration.

According to the backmatter of the first Dark Age trade paperback, there is a mysterious fifth Experimental. As yet, next to nothing is known about him/her and his/her nature.

I tried playing around with it, is there any way to get the membership list that's made up underneath the groups pic? I prefer to have the member list alphabetical like other pages and it would look better have the scorecard info, directly underneath the picture. 
Or getting another image of the group and placing this one elsewhere, with the scorecard underneath it would work too...

Since the comment clarifies the membership order, I don't feel it is necessary to adhere to alphabetic order when listing the members. I definitely am not a fan of redundant lists (even if in a different order). Getting the list closer to the picture might have some advantages, but right now, it doesn't seem to be hindering the goal of communicating who is who in the group mug shot.

I have done a minor GUI ergonomic tweak to make the list distinct and easier to digest. I think it reads fine, but if there are other viewpoints feel free to voice them.

The Apollo Eleven were later wanted for crimes unknown and had to operate while on the run from the law.

|history =Originally a team of human astronauts sent to the moon to establish an international station, Earth's first moon base. Instead, while moonside, they made contact with extraterrestrials who transformed their physiologies and retrained them as emissaries to represent them on Earth. The Apollo Eleven became wanted criminals after escaping from a Federal Research Facility and operated while on the run from the law from 1972-1974.

In 1972, were part of a celestial convergence with an [[Omni-Brain]]. In 1976 saved Australia from the [[Golden Horde]].

The Apollo Eleven had been charged a task by an alien collective known as the Continuum: to guide and prepare humanity to join the wider community of extraterrestrial civilizations. The Continuum communicates with the ex-astronauts via its agent, the cosmic being called Xosmos.
They also are able to call upon [[The Incarnate]], which of the members have a piece and are able to call upon any of the Incarnate's personalities.

LGM, a genuine alien and not a member of the ten-person moon group, was placed on the team to serve as an observer for Xosmos and the Continuum.

In 1982, they were captured by [[Pyramid]] in an attempt by the group to gain The Incarante's power, which unleashed the destructive personality of Kerresh the Devastator. In the aftermath of the battle, the group had lost its powers and were returned to human form. L.G.M.'s fate was unknown.

Kahoutek and Aquarina are a couple. As are Arthro and Gas Giant, though their relationship is complicated by the latter's incorporeal state.

Kurt Busiek considered "Saturn Five" as an alternate name for the group, as it would require fewer members, but Alex Ross convinced him that "Apollo Eleven" was more specifically tied to the time period.

Physically, the members of the team seem to be based either on different popular conceptions of what aliens look like (Greys, little green men, etc.) or on cosmological phenomena (black holes, comets, etc.) Kahoutek's name is a reference to the comet of the same name.
