Augustus Furst

"[At the age of 14], Auggie wrote an article for "one'a those science journal things he used to clog up the livin' room with."
--- Julius Furst

World renowned scientist, inventor, and head of the famous First Family. Augustus is the older brother of Julius Furst. He is also the adoptive-father to Nikolai and Natalie Furst and thus the adoptive-grandfather to Natalia's daughter Astra, and Nick's two offspring, Karl, and Sasha.

History

Dr. Furst attended Harold Jordan Memorial High School in St. Paul Minnesota. At that young age his intellectual prowess was already a notoriety.

The careers of both he and his brother took off in 1950, when Augustus was asked to assist in an investigation of a strange phenomenon that was draining energy from industrial power sources in the central regions of Romania. The source of the problem turned out to be a creature known as Onggu the Omnivorous. Dr. Furst quickly surmised that it was an alien life form. He just as quickly devised an instrument capable of generating a feedback powerful enough to weaken Onggu and rid earth of its presence. This lead to world-wide exposure and Augustus' picture being prominently displayed on the cover of Scientific American. This was encored a few months later by a breakthrough scientific discovery and a Time Magazine cover feature.

Dr. Furst has been married four times. His most notable was his third wife, Nadia, whom he rescued from an alien energy field. However, due to what probably evolved into a case of emotional detachment and neglect, she soon left him. Finding the romantic attentions of another equally famous man (Kaspian prince of the legendary tribe of Animal-Men) far more alluring, she married him and together that had two children, twins.

In 1961, in a mystery not yet explained, she turned up missing and Kaspian was incarcerated. Dr. Furst graciously adopted and raised the twins as his own. This loving gesture changed the brotherly team into a family... the First Family.

Equipment

Dr. Furst carries a small hand-held device called the Energenerator, an energy source that powers many of the gadgets and devices he uses. For the sake of comfort and familiarity, the Energenerator is shaped like a smoking pipe. A former pipe-smoker, Dr. Furst can frequently be seen holding the device in his mouth, its stem pressed between his lips.
