There is conflicting information about the All-American. One report has him being killed by a sniper's bullet in the Korean War. Elliot Mills mentions that the All-American along with the Lamplighter had just retired in 1959.
One possibility is that someone else, possibly a grown-up Slugger, took over the costume for several years after Appleton was killed.
There also could be some link between the All-American, Slugger, Commando K/Commando K Project/U.S. Government involvement which would show how all these are related, if at all besides what has already been established. [edit] Timelines of Interest
