I cover this on the Help page, but just to remind people.

  1. Except for Vertigo/Juke Box press-release images, please don't "lift" images from other websites. Scan them yourself directly from the Astro City comics.
  2. Use good editing judgement when you do scan them.
  3. Strive for a good interesting composition.
  4. Make sure the image is clear, clean and not blurry.
  5. Make sure it "reads" well. By that I mean don't crop the anatomy of characters at awkward points. Images that focus on crotch shots are especially frowned upon.
  6. Unless it is brief, adds to the essential moment of the image, try not to include word balloons, and if you do use them make sure they can be read clearly. They shouldn't be too tiny, and in no way shape or form should the words be incomplete and cropped.
  7. In most cases, do not include any kind of border lines around the image. Borders can be added programatically, which makes it fast and immediate to change layout styles but maintain a common look-n-feel.

There are exceptions to these guidelines. Make sure you understand what makes for a good exception. Check with me if you have any questions or concerns. zyxometer@gmail.com is a great way to contact me via eMail.
