Half Man. Half Corgi. Mostly Hero. Utterly Adorable.

History

''"To start with, I want to be really clear, I didn't steal Hank."
-- Andy Merton.

Andy Merton, a minor thug, took Hank, a corgi, from a fellow minor thug and druggie called Mannie. They both worked occasionally for a bigger thug named Mack Faraday and both owed him a considerable amount of money. Mannie just owed more. Mannie also owed Andy which is why he took Hank. He thought Hank was Mannie's pet, and would be motivated to cough up some money to get Hank back. Turns out Mannie had stolen him from a breeder to resell. SO basically Andy got Hank.

'"I did steal the amulet though. Straight up."
-- Andy Merton.

Desperate for money, Andy broke into a house over Eastbrook, where he found a shrine to Stormhawk. He took some jewelry, that was for profit. From the shrine he also took an amulet. Not for monetary value, he just wanted it.

Afterwards he spent a good amount of time looking after Hank, mostly house training him to start off with, and of course he grew close to the little corgi. One day, after a walk in the park and while thinking about how Andy owed Faraday another payment soon, Hank somehow bumped his nose against the amulet dangling from Andy's neck. This action caused a corgi-human fusing, binding them together. It was very brief, but Andy quickly understood how to go back and forth between dog/human form at will. He was very intrigued by the experience.

While testing out their powers, Andy was mulling thoughts of pulling a few bank jobs, something to get some fast bucks. Yet somehow, he could hear Hank in the back of his mind saying "No. Not good." This "communication" with Hank increased until it was a fairly common occurrence. While in Dog/Human form Andy/Hank came upon a mugging in progress. At the strong urgings of Hank, they took action and foiled the actions of the muggers. Afterwards, the victims wanted to know who he was, what he was called. Andy wanted to say either 'Nighthound' or 'Guardsman' but Hank barked in (ha) with the nickname that Andy gave him of 'G-Dog', which of course everyone thought was adorable. Andy however left slightly flustered and embarrassed.

Over time, they gained experience as a super-hero. Andy gained a girlfriend in a woman named Esme. An actual, totally honest job working at a bar. Even taking down Faraday after realizing that “oh wait, I have superpowers!” Thanks to Hank's influence, he stopped thinking about doing criminal acts and instead focused on heroic activities like taking down Lichen-Thrope. G-Dog was thanked by Honor Guard which amazed Andy. Hank took it all in stride, just part of the action that comes with protecting "the herd."

Andy's life was now going incredibly well, until the day he took Hank to the vet and was shocked to learn that dogs had much shorter life-spans that human's and that Hank was just experience the typical signs of aging.

Four years of being one with Hank and becoming G-Dog, Andy knew that he needed answers, especially after learning that G-dog could fly. A feat they suddenly acquired while battling and defeating the Mecha-Nerds. So, Andy returned to the riverside home where he had burgled the amulet, and introduced himself to the owner,Marcy Martin. She was also the significant other to another super-hero,Stormhawk. The two discussed the amulet and Stormhawk as well as the advanced powers that were gained from the amulet, namely super strength, flight and lightning powers. Andy later revealed to Esme pretty much everything about him being G-Dog and his own past. She suspected that G-Dog was somehow connected to amulet, and in that meeting, Andy, and Hank built another friendship.

As he was about to attack an Iron Legion cadre, he was introduced to the Pet Patrol already engaged in the battle and attacking right before them. Following the battle, G-Dog turned down an offer to join the Pet Patrol. Andy was holding out and hoping for an Honor Guard invitation or maybe even the the Irregulars, a slightly baffled Hank just shrugged.

Life moved on; Andy graduated College, he and Esme bought the bar he had been working at, and of course, they got married (with Hank as the Best Dog). As happy as things were, a routine visit to the vet revealed a sudden shocking truth. Dog-years were still ticking faster than human-years, and the vet warned that Hank was now in his twilight period.

Andy left, filled with thoughts of dread and disappointment. He realized just how important Hank was to him and it was time to indulge more in Hanks needs and desires. So G-Dog joined Pet Patrol after all. Along the way they gained Stormhawk's lightning powers. The remaining times passed much too quickly and Hank was now almost seventeen. Worse, the vet revealed that Hank had cancer and advised Andy to consider euthanizing Hank. Andy tormented over what to do. Ultimately he decided that as long as he and Hank could still communicate on their special level, he would do everything he could to make Hank happy and comfortable. A few months later, Hank passed, peacefully and contentedly.

Soon the amulet materialized around Andy's neck. Andy had done a lot of soul-searching and he knew that no matter what was going to happen he was never going to be G-Dog again, and he wasn't going to bond with another animal. It just wasn't in him. Hank had been too important of a partner, especially helping Andy to be a much better person. He said proper goodbyes to the Pet Patrol, went to a desolate area of the mountains, and there he left the amulet on the branch of a tree for new individuals to claim it and be changed by its bonding powers.

It didn't take long.
