HistoryGrandenetti started building his cathedral in 1869, when he arrived and it was still unfinished when he died in 1908. His passion to glorify God was the catalyst towards the purchase of more land for the construction of additional catacombs, chapels and vestries. Eventually the Cathedral and surrounding religious estate consumed over 14 city blocks.
