He was an agent of PYRAMID at one point, for whom he created the Dynamoid drones. By the mid-1980s, his health had greatly deteriorated, to the point where an electric wheelchair and oxygen tank were his constant companions. Aubrey Jason had been funneling money to Ganss sometime during the early 1980s and Jason came to him wanting real power after being hounded by the two Williams Brothers in 1984.
