SPAM Uptick

I just got off the phone with Fenx4, we might be seeing some changes to the security methods used for anonymous edits to this wiki-site. We are NOT at this time planning to eliminate anonymous-edits. We don't want to discourage people from contributing content. So don't worry, it's nothing major, but the changes should prove more of a deterrent to the 'bots lurking out there in the wild world of the net.

I'm actually a bit surprised that tracker sites are still pursuing this course of site pollution. Google, Bing-bots and other spider crawlers have moved away from rewarding links for the sake of links and are using better heuristics techniques to analyze the value of data linkages. Guess Kazakhstan, Thailand, Romania and Belarus didn't get that memo.

Anonymous edits are temporarily blocked. We will look into restoring them as time permits. --Infobroker (talk) 11:34, 2 March 2015 (PST)

Symantec Wiki Functions, annotations/Events Notecards - Future Impacts to Herocopia Site

First off, let me say I had hoped we would have been further along in the process of building the Event entries. But real life on my level does cause major changes to drag here in the land of media wikis.

As I master more skills with semantic queries, especially the formatting, the events sections for characters will change, not be so kludgy looking.

There will be a rewinding of sorts( please don't kill me Zak) of the various business, neighborhoods, etc... pages. Instead of building those by hand we will use semantic queries to auto build those pages. This means we will go back to having individual pages for each item.

Other types of pages will be created using queries, and more information will derive itself from queries, some totally new, and some to replace some of the manual entry we do now.

All of this will happen over time. Right now my emphasis is on getting more events annotated. The rest of this is background noise, bouncing around in my brain cells, waiting for its moments of focused attention.

Feel free to post your questions, concerns and other input.

New "Stuff" Templates: Code testing and experimenting - not ready for prime time use yet

  • Yes I am touching some "real" pages for this testing and experimenting phase. I don't recommend anyone using them until I have finished.
  • I will send out a notice when I think things are ready for full implementation.

My son Seth and I have been making changes to several templates(mainly as they relate to events), but we are also layering in changes to existing templates. This is all part the ongoing architectural changes to the site.
We am still working on the non-character("stuff") page layouts and templates. I want to move landmarks, buildings, devices, etc ... off of using the character templates towards something that gives them a unique look, and more sensitive to a lighter information load. This is pretty close to being usable.
The eventCharElement and eventDeviceElement templates will be deprecated very soon. Event pages will be calling one common template. I had envisioned the char and device templates setting and doing more unique things. So far, all they are doing is indicating that the event element is a char or a device. That will be getting done elsewhere. This is part of being more third normal in the overall structure of pages and the way we set property values.
infobox2 template is currently receiving a value for the type property setting. This will change very quickly to it doing it automatically.
This is a bit cryptic, but once more stuff is in play I will explain more. For now think of this as announcements of things to come.
