History Before becoming the Deacon, master criminal in his own right, Deke MacManus was Joey "The Platypus" Platapopoulous's second-in-command. MacManus became the Deacon when he betrayed and murdered him, usurping his power. It was also revealed that the Deacon was the one responsible for creating Black Velvet, as he was the one that she was trying to track down before Jitterjack found her. It's possible he was the one heavily involved with Dr. Lewis Oscar Croft and responsible for his murder as well.
