Possibly Red Cake Day was inspired by Elliot S! Maggin's fictional holidays Miracle Monday (from the Superman novel of the same name) and Thirsty Thursday (from Superman #293), although this is purely conjectural.

Red Cake Day

History

Red Cake Day is a specific day of the year on which all sorts of delicious red-colored baked goods mysteriously appear in Honor Guard's headquarters. It has occurred annually since 1991, but an explanation was not forthcoming until 2014, when it was revealed that the cakes were provided by Eth of the QuiQui-A as atonement for his role in the death of Honor Guard member Stormhawk.

Observations

  • The types of cake provided seem to vary somewhat from year to year; one Honor Guard member mentions that one of this year's cakes is unfamiliar to him.
  • According to Kurt (via his Facebook page), Red Cake Day is in early November, but the precise date "varies due to dimensional time slippage."
