The Deacon

The Deacon is a powerful crime lord. He wears a priest's habit, but rules his territories, including those within Astro City with a devious ruthlessness, tinged with brutal, psychopathic violence.

History

Before becoming the Deacon, master criminal in his own right, Deke MacManus was Joey "The Platypus" Platapopoulous's second-in-command. MacManus became the Deacon when he betrayed and murdered him, usurping his power.
It was also revealed that the Deacon was the one responsible for creating Black Velvet, as he was the one that she was trying to track down before Jitterjack found her. It's possible he was the one heavily involved with Dr. Lewis Oscar Croft and responsible for his murder as well.

Speculations, Theories

  • If he were still active, he would be a very old crime lord now. Who knows? He is nasty enough to still be lingering in the background, still pulling the strings that keep the underworld of Astro City an ongoing threat.
