Before becoming the Deacon, master criminal in his own right, Deke MacManus was Joey "The Platypus" Platapopoulous's second-in-command. MacManus became the Deacon when he betrayed and murdered him, usurping his power. [edit] Appearances (in published order)

1:1 The Black Rapier mentions that he thinks the Deacon's "up to something" at an Honor Guard meeting.

1:3 Andrew "Eyes" Eisenstein, a small-time hood, discovers the secret identity of Jack-in-the-Box and imagines selling the information to the Deacon.

2:7 The Confessor goes on a rampage and attempts to destroy the Deacon's criminal organization. He is stopped by Altar Boy.

DA2:1 As an underling of crime lord Joey "The Platypus" Platapopoulous, the Deacon enlists the hitman Jitterjack to even a score against a rival gang.
