K.O. Carson was an ex-boxer and policeman. Sometime in the 1950s, when he felt that traditional law-enforcement wasn't serving the black community fairly, he began fighting crime as the Black Badge. He focused most of his activities around Astro City's Bakerville neighborhood. After retiring in 1972, he went public with his identity, so that his story could serve as an inspiration to others.
